Instructor Biographies

Andrew Lisbin

Violinist Andrew Lisbin originally hails from the small town of Gardiner, NY. He attended Manhattan School of Music’s preparatory division for four years as a student of Patinka Kopec and afterwards continuing his studies at the Eastman School of Music with Charles Castleman (both of whom are considered top teachers amongst violinists worldwide). His summer festival appearances have included The Quartet Program with Charles Castleman, Oberlin in Italy, the Las Vegas Music Festival, Spoleto U.S.A. and the Ohio Light Opera (where he has performed in more than 35 productions and 12 recordings over the past 9 years). He has been teaching classical violin to children and adults since age 16.

Adam Potter

A versatile musician, Adam Potter is equally sought after as a collaborative pianist, tenor, conductor, and teacher of singing. He earned the Bachelor of Music degree, summa cum laude, in vocal music education and the Master of Music degree in choral conducting from the Greatbatch School of Music, Houghton College . At Houghton, he was awarded the Presser Scholarship for outstanding music major, served as a graduate assistant in choral music, accompanying, and music history, conducted the Houghton Opera Theatre production of Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro in 2008, and was assistant conductor of the Houghton College Choir on its tours of the eastern United States and of Spain, France, and Italy in 2009.

Devoted both to training the next generation of leaders in the arts and arts education and to enriching the lives of all students through music, Mr. Potter is currently the Director of Vocal Music at Dansville Senior High School, overseeing a thriving and growing choral and vocal music curriculum. During the summers, he is a collaborative pianist and vocal coach for the Vocal Soloist Studies Program at the Interlochen Center for the Arts in Interlochen , Michigan , one of the country’s premier training grounds for high school-aged classical singers.

Mr. Potter maintains memberships in the American Choral Directors Association, the National Association for Music Education (MENC), the National Association of Teachers of Singing, and the New York State School Music Association. He is also a member of Pi Kappa Lambda, the American honor society for musicians, having earned induction through the Zeta Omicron chapter in 2007. Mr. Potter resides in Dansville, from where he manages a full schedule of school and studio teaching as well as freelance performance and coaching engagements.

Bevin Lynn

Bevin MacRae Lynn earned her degree in percussion performance from SUNY Geneseo. She also studied with Eastman’s Ruth Cahn. She specializes in mallet percussion and timpani, and is very accomplished on all other percussion instruments and drums as well. She is invloved in a variety of Celtic and folk music (for which she plays octave mandolin and fiddle), activities and is a member of the Hornell Wind Ensemble.

Bevin resides in Dansville where she continues to put up with her husband.

Brandon Pender – Guitar, Voice, Piano, Theory

Brandon did his formal musical study at Berkley College of Music from 1997-2001 where he majored in Film Scoring (composition of music applied to picture). Brandon’s principled study instruments are Guitar and vocal. Brandon is well versed and can instruct in recording principals and computer audio recording programs such as Pro Tools, Sound Forge, sequencing programs such as Acid and Fruity Loops and compositional programs such as Finale and Overture. Brandon has observed study from Carl Beaty and Eddie Kramer (engineer of some of Jimi Hendrix’s albums). Brandon can instruct Blues, Rock, Bluegrass, Country, Jazz and Classical techniques on guitar and voice as well as teach Music Theory in Tonal Harmony and Traditional Counterpoint composition.

Carol Allen

Carol Allen studied music for many years with well-known keyboard instructor Paul Isaman from whom she learned piano and organ. Her love of music was nurtured by her music teacher she had in Kindergarten-12th grade, Virginia Tripp. Carol has maintained a private piano studio in her home and has provided keyboard and vocal music for weddings, local churches, and community events.

After being a stay at home mom and raising six children, Carol decided to pursue a college education. As a returning student, she attended FLCC and received an Associate of Science Degree in Music. She went on to study music at Nazareth College of Rochester with the primary focus on piano and music education. While at Nazareth she studied piano with Dr. Beverly Smoker.

She is currently finishing the Master of Music Education Degree at Nazareth College and hopes to find a teaching position as well as expand her private studio and the piano studio at The Music Store.

Chris Lynn

Chris Lynn is a Wayland-Cohocton alumnus with Bachelors Degrees in Music from SUNY Geneseo and the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam, as well as a Masters Degree in Music Education from Crane. Chris currently teaches instrumental music, grades 4-12, at Canaseraga Central School. Chris’s primary instruments are trumpet and horn, although according to Chris, he has been known to play a mean Kazoo! Chris resides in Atlanta, NY with his wife, Bevin.

George Standish

George Standish graduated from Onondaga Community College with an Associate of Science Degree in Music. He then went on to graduate from Syracuse University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education. George began his teaching career in Canaseraga and at St. Mary’s in Dansville in 1975. In 1986 he became the High School Band Director at Wayland-Cohocton where he has been teaching music ever since. George has now retired from teaching at the school but is greatly missed by everyone there. He teaches guitar music lessons at The Music Store.

George’s main instrument is the guitar and has been performing on stage continuously since the seventh grade. George is the lead guitarist for the rock band Lucky Number, which he formed in 1990. He performs almost every weekend in the Southern Tier as well is in the Bloomfield and Canandaigua areas. As a long time Beatles fan, he has also come to love Dream Theater and Yngwie Malmsteen.

George recently branched out into providing sound equipment and created G2 Productions with Glenn Thorp. George has provided sound systems for different venues from wedding receptions to the “Colgate Country Show Down,” and most recently provided the sound system for the NYS Festival of Balloons’ national act, “Six Real Brother’s,” from Las Vegas.

George resides in Wayland with his wife, Linda. He has two adult daughters, Ashley and Erica.

John Cole

Mr. Cole began his teaching career at Bradford Central School in 1993, where he taught instrumental music at grades 4-12. In 1996, Mr. Cole began teaching Instrumental Music at Haverling High School. Instrumental performance groups under his instruction include the Haverling High School Symphonic Band, the Blue Regiment Marching Band, The Haverling “Blues” Jazz Ensemble (grades 9-12), and the Middle School Jazz Ensemble. In addition to the performance groups, Mr. Cole also teaches instrumental music lessons to both high school and middle school students.

Mr. Cole holds an Associate of Science degree in music, from Onondaga Community College, a Bachelor of Music in Music Education degree from Mansfield University, and a Master of Music in Music Education degree from the Ithaca College School of Music.

Mr. Cole’s main instrument is percussion. He has studied percussion with John Barker, Richard Talbot, Theodore Rounds and Gordon Stout. Mr. Cole is also an accomplished guitarist. In addition to his full teaching schedule Mr. Cole spends some his free time in various performing groups. Mr. Cole started the Jazz Educators, which is a big band jazz ensemble made up of local music teachers. Mr. Cole also performs in many area high school and college musicals.

In 2005, Mr. Cole was nominated as WETM/NY Lottery Educator of the Week. Mr. Cole has been active in the Steuben County Music Teachers Association where he has served as President and holds professional memberships in the New York State School Music Association, The New York Band Directors Association, and the Percussive Arts Society.
